Cassie Irwin (Shelby Township, MI) of the women’s track and field team is honored for the week of April 29-May 5.

Irwin took part in setting three new school records at the Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Championships on May 3-4. She broke Jeanne Kunde’s 1982 school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.67 seconds that placed her second overall. Irwin anchored the 4 x 100-meter relay team that won with a time of 50.37 seconds and set a new conference record as well. Finally, she anchored the 4 x 400-meter relay team that finished in 4:13.62 and broke the previous school record from 1981. Irwin was responsible for 15.03 team points in helping the Cougar women finish fourth in the meet.

Irwin, the daughter of Ted and Sandy Irwin, is a 2009 graduate of Lutheran High School Northwest in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She is a senior Lutheran elementary education major with specializations in Sociology and language arts.
