Alex Schmidt (Frankenmuth, MI) of the women’s track team is honored for the week of April 2-8.
Schmidt broke the school record for the 10,000-meter run April 7 at the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships. Her time of 37:48.34 broke Julie Haertling’s 1983 record by 2:16 and put her in 18th place currently among Division III runners nationally (the top 22 at the end of the season will go to the national meet in May). The record is Schmidt’s fourth of the season, following the records in the 3,000-meters, 5,000-meters and the mile run she broke during the indoor season.
Schmidt, the daughter of Tyson and Sharon Schmidt, is a 2009 graduate of Frankenmuth High School. She is a junior physical education major.
