Jack Rustman joins the CUC football staff in 2019 as a full-time assistant coach for the offensive line.
Previously, Rustman was the offensive line coach and assistant offensive coordinator under Jason Aubry from 2010-15 and again in 2017 at Joliet West High School. Rustman mentored four offensive linemen to all-conference and all-area teams. As assistant offensive coordinator to Mark Peterson, the team increased their output by 10 points per game in the 2011 season and, two years later, put up a school-record 35.5 points per game. In 2013, Joliet West produced their first 1,000-yard rusher since the 1992 season. Rustman’s time in the position factored in the offense increasing their numbers in points scored, rushing yards and passing yards – the latter showing an increase of 112 percent.
          Â
The association between Rustman and Aubry goes further back to 2004, when Rustman was a senior all-conference lineman in Aubry’s first season as head coach at Johnsburg (IL) High School. The Skyhawks posted their first-ever 10-win season and conference championship that year, along with a second-round appearance in the Illinois Class 5A playoffs.
Rustman went on to play four years for NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University. His career included four years as a starter at right tackle and later center, three years as a team captain and two years as an All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference selection.
          Â
In the fall of 2010, following a season playing with the Milwaukee Iron of the Arena Football League, Rustman elected to do his student teaching at Joliet West High School, where Aubry was the head coach. Rustman would make the transition from player to coach, as he was named the varsity offensive line coach and strength and conditioning coach. The following year, he would add the assistant offensive coordinator’s position.
          Â
In 2016, Rustman moved on to Loyola Academy in Wilmette, IL to assist with the offensive line and also work with the freshman team’s defensive line. His year with the Ramblers allowed him to mentor a Division I tight end and two Division I AA linemen. The team finished second in the IHSA playoffs in class 8A.
          Â
Rustman returned to Joliet West for the 2017 season before taking on the head coach’s responsibilities at West Chicago (IL) High School. The Wildcats began 2018 with a roster of 36 players, which Rustman built up to 75 by the start of the season. The team averaged 325 yards per game on offense and had their first 300-yard passer in a game since 2002.
         Â
Rustman earned his B.A. in physical/health education from Northern Michigan University in 2010. He earned an M.A. in exercise science from Concordia University in St. Paul, MN in 2018.
