Jake Garvey joined the CUC Baseball coaching staff as an Assistant Pitching Coach in the summer of 2023.
In his role, he assists head coach Matt Smith to oversee the development and progress of the pitching staff. His primary responsibilities include implementing and monitoring individualized throwing and lifting programs, as well as tracking and analyzing data to support pitcher development.Â
A five-year member of the CUC baseball program, Garvey contributed as a relief pitcher in the bullpen. He was a part of the historic 2019 team that won both regular season conference title and the regional championship. In his fifth year, he posted a 0.00 ERA and recorded two strikeouts. His experience as a student-athlete gives him a strong understanding of the program's culture and expectations.Â
Garvey is Rapsodo certified, enhancing his ability to use advanced technology in pitcher analysis and development. Outside of baseball, Garvey has taught in a self-contained special education classroom within Chicago Public Schools for four years, where he continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of his students.Â
Garvey earned his bachelor's degree in Special Education from CUC in December 2021 and completed his master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Trauma and Resilience in 2023. Originally from Brookfield, Illinois, Garvey now resides in Forest Park with his wife McKenna, a fellow CUC graduate.Â
