RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's tennis team hosted Ripon College this afternoon. The Cougars showed promise, fight, and persistence, but ended up falling 7-0 to the Red Hawks.
 
Doubles

• At No. 3 doubles, Sarah Gustafson (Merrill, Wis.) and Abigail Krueger (Brookfield, Ill.) played their opponents tightly, narrowly falling 7-6 with a 8-6 tiebreak.
• Both duos of Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) and Brianna Bentz (Whitehall, Mich.) and Hannah Upole (Hinkley, Ohio) were able to score points in their respective doubles matches, but each fell 6-2.

 
Singles

• At No. 3 singles, Shakir showed her strength and forced the set into a tiebreaker. Unfortunately, she would fall in the tiebreaker, 8-6. Then she dropped set two, 6-2.
• Krueger also competed well at the net. Despite falling 6-2 in set one, she went to a tiebreak in the second set. She showed grit and fight but fell 7-5 (10-8 tiebreak).
• Bentz showed promise at No. 2 singles, narrowly dropping her match 6-4, 6-1.
• Engelman picked up points in both sets (6-2, 6-1) at No. 1 singles despite being on the losing end.
• Gustafson and Upole each lost their respective singles matches 6-0, 6-1.

 
What's Next
The Cougars will play at CUC Courts on Saturday, September 12. CUC welcomes Concordia University Wisconsin for the first Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) match of the season.
