Game One
Inside the Box Score:
- Both Alaina Pilas (Chicago, Ill.) and Alyssa Campos (Eastvale, Calif.) went one for two at the plate in game one, Campos tacking on a run for the Cougars.
- Melisa Hadzic (Westchester, Ill.) and McKyler Morris (Belvidere, Ill.) went one for three at the plate in game one, both grabbing runs, along with an RBI from Hadzic.
- Campos also went on to pick up the win in the circle after five innings pitched and 16 batters faced.
Â
Here's What Happened
- Things started off with Emily Garcia (Eastvale, Calif.) getting hit by a pitch, earning a spot at first. A Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) sacrifice bunt helped advance Garcia to second. This would be the end of the top of the first as the Eagles collected their final outs. The Cougars wouldn't let the Eagles have a chance at doing any damage as they collected their outs quickly, moving into the next inning.
- The Cougars broke the game open early on as Campos got walked and proceeded to steal second. This was followed up by a double from Morris to center field, advancing both her and Campos to scoring position. Mayah Larenas (Chino, Calif.) then came up to bat, singling to right field, which advanced Morris to third and Campos to home for the game's first run. Eliza Auger (Littleton, Colo.) then reached first off of a fielder's choice to second, which got Larenas out. Morris, through all the chaos, scored. Even as the Cougars went into the field, Campos continued to apply pressure as her pitching streak started out strong with quick outs, including a strikeout. The Cougars grew their lead, 2-0.
- The top of the third started with Garcia reaching first off of an error by second. Garcia then left the plate early, resulting in a dead ball and the Eagles collecting their first out. Both teams worked fast in getting their outs, continuing on into the next inning, the score remaining the same.
- Hadzic tacked on another run to start the fourth inning, hitting a home run into left field. This would be the only run for the Cougars that inning as the Eagles worked to get them out from behind the bats. The bottom of the fourth would be uneventful as the Eagles passed by another inning with just outs, moving into the following inning, the Cougars leading 3-0.
- The fifth inning began with two outs from the Cougars, followed up by a single to center field from Pilas, who also advanced to second on a passed ball. This would go nowhere as the Eagles came back to bat. The Eagles would only get as far as third before the Cougars finished grabbing their outs, keeping their lead in check.
- The sixth inning began with two consecutive outs before a single to the right side from Campos would kick things off for the Cougars. Campos would unfortunately be left stranded as the remaining batters were out in order. The bottom of the sixth inning would suddenly become eventful for the Eagles as one hit a home run to left center field, allowing for that Eagle to score. The Cougars avoided another run with some easy outs, the score changing, 3-1.
- The final inning would be drab for the Cougars as their batters were quickly put out, outside of Gulsby, who doubled to left center field, but would remain at second as the top of the inning closed. The bottom of the seventh started out with a single, along with a runner reaching first off of a fielder's choice to second. An Eagle then got walked and went on to second. An Eagle then singled to center field, where an Eagle advanced to third and another was able to score. The Eagles did their best to take the game in the final inning but the Cougar defense held its own and the Cougars would go on to take game one, 3-2.
Â
The Eagles' attempted comeback was not enough as the Cougars stayed strong and took game one, 3-2.

- Campos went four for five at the plate in game two, collecting three runs and four RBIs.

- Katie Davis picked up her second win of the season in the circle after 2.2 innings pitched, striking out one with 15 batters faced.
Â
Here's What Happened
- Game two started off with a bang as Campos singled to shortstop, followed up with a triple from Hadzic to right field, allowing Campos to score but Hadzic remained stranded at third. An Eagle was hit by a pitch, putting them at first, advancing to second, but that is as far as they would move as the Cougars collected their outs from the batters, leading 1-0.
- The second inning began with Jazmine Gonzales (Riverside, Calif.) reaching first off of an error by third. This was followed up by a single through the right side from Auger, helping advance Gonzales to second; Southern's sacrifice bunt advanced Auger and Gonzales to scoring position. Unfortunately, they would stay put for the final out, moving them to the field. The Eagles had two consecutive singles, putting their runners in scoring position. An Eagle then doubled to right field, allowing both runners to score. The Eagles took the lead, 2-1.
- The Cougars would take their lead back once and for all in the third inning as Pilas took Santos' place to pinch run after Santos singled up the middle. Campos then doubled to right field, letting Pilas score, tying the teams up. Hadzic would then single to right field, advancing Campos to third. Morris then doubled to center field, advancing Hadzic to third and letting Campos score. Larenas then came up to bat, singling to right field and advanced to second on the throw, allowing both Morris and Hadzic to score. The bases finally got loaded as Southern singled to left center field, advancing Auger and Larenas to scoring position. A Gulsby sacrifice fly would advance Auger to third and Larenas home, scoring another run. The bottom of the third inning would be just as interesting as the Eagles went on to collect three additional runs, still trailing behind the Cougars. The Cougars led going into the fourth inning, 6-5.
- The fourth inning started off with a single to right field from Campos, a bunt to the pitcher from Morris advancing Campos to second. The rest of the inning saw a decrease in activity, quickly moving into the following inning, the scores remaining 6-5.
- The Cougars continued to push forward in the fifth inning as Auger reached first off of an error by second. Southern then singled to the pitcher, advancing Auger to second. Gulsby also reached first off of an error, advancing Auger and Southern to scoring position. Pilas singled to right field, advancing Gulsby and Southern to scoring position while Auger proceeded to score. A bases-clearing double for Campos helped Pilas, Gulsby and Southern all reach home, tacking on three more runs. Hadzic topped this off by hitting a double to center field, allowing Campos to score. The Eagles would end the Cougars scoring streak, but didn't have luck striking back as the Eagles got out from behind the bats quickly, the Cougars leading 11-5.
- The sixth inning would cool down a bit as the Cougars only proceeded to second before the Eagles got them back on the field. An Eagle tried to fight the score with a home run of their own, grabbing three more runs for their team. The Cougars avoided further damage by grabbing quick outs, the score gap getting smaller, 11-8.Â
- The final inning proved to be eventful and Hadzic singled up the middle, followed by Morris reaching first off of a fielder's choice to third, getting Hadzic out at second. Larenas then singled to shortstop, advancing Morris to second. Gonzales then singled to right field and advanced to second, Larenas scoring off of an error. Morris quickly came in, grabbing another run. Auger then doubled down the left field line, helping Gonzales score. Gulsby then went up to bat, reaching first off of an error by shortstop, helping Auger score a final run for the Cougars. The Eagles attempted to hit back, getting as far as first before all outs were collected by the Cougars, helping them take game two, 15-8.
