RIVER, FOREST, ILL. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's tennis team faced Olivet Nazarene in non-conference action, ultimately falling after a strong showing from the Tigers in doubles play and key singles positions.
DOUBLES
- Olivet Nazarene swept all three doubles matches to take early control of the contest.
- Sam Smith (Munster, Ind.) and Andres Villagran (El Paso, Texas) dropped the No. 1 match 6-3.
- August Barnes (Sodus, Mich.) and Collin Dickey (Frisco, Texas) battled in a tight No. 2 matchup but fell just short, 7-5.
- Kevin Bullens (River Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Pelzek were edged 6-4 in the No. 3 position.
SINGLES
- The Cougars picked up two wins in singles play behind strong performances from Barnes and Bullens.
- Barnes secured the first victories for the Cougars with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles.
- Bullens followed closley behind with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
- Dickey pushed a competitive first set at No. 1 but fell 7-5, 6-1.
- Reynaldo Leal (Weslaco, Texas) dropped his No. 2 match 6-2, 6-0.
- Smith fell at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1.
- Villagran rounded out the lineup at No. 4, falling 6-1, 6-2.
