RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- After spending a week in the Sunshine State playing six games, the Cougars walked away going 3-3 while collecting another Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Player of the Week accolade after a strong week-long performance from
Cam Buckley (New Lenox, Ill.).
Buckley led the charge for the Cougars on the week with a .375 batting average and a .563 slugging percentage. He collected six hits across four games with four RBIs and two runs. In addition to the strong stats, Buckley was a key player in many impact points throughout the week including a diving catch in centerfield to prevent the game-winning run from scoring in the team's 12 inning game against St. John Fisher. He then went on to pick up a much needed solo home run against Saint Mary's University to put life back into the team after falling behind early. In the win over no. 19 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Buckley was responsible for a mid-game hit that kept the Cougars fighting through an early deficit before pulling the underdog win. On the week, Buckley picked up two stolen bases, putting him first in the NACC for stolen bases while having a clean week in the field.
Buckley and the Cougars continue their non-conference slate with a trip to Texas this weekend for a three game series with Hardin-Simmons University. They'll play a double-header on Friday, March 14th, with first pitch set for 4:00 pm. Coverage can be found at cuocugars.com.
