Trio of Cougars Score in Double-Digits in Contest Against WLC

Milwaukee, Wis. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars men's basketball team traveled to Milwaukee for a Saturday Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup against the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College. After 40 minutes of play, the Warriors emerged victorious with a final score of 54-76.

 

Inside the Box Score:

  • Jacob Robinson (Saint Louis, Mo.) led the Cougars in scoring finishing with 15 points.
  • Honore Yangoua (Williamstown, Ky.) finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 points.
  • Aaron Brown (Joliet, Ill.) was the final Cougar to finish in double digits, adding 12 points, seven rebounds, and one assist. 
 

Here's What Happened

First Half

The Warriors kicked off the scoring with a quick jumper, but Yangoua responded quickly with a layup to tie the score up at two apiece. The Cougars found themselves in an early 7-2 lead over the Warriors thanks to a three-pointer by Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) followed by a layup by AJ Willard (Germantown, Wis.). The Warriors were able to get back within one, but Robinson's made jumpshot in a fastbreak brought the Cougars back into a three-point lead, 9-6. The remainder of the first half the two teams exchanged basket for basket until the Cougars found themselves down six with a little over a minute to go in the half. Yangoua grabbed a steal then scored a layup in hopes of chipping away at the deficit, but the Warriors found one last burst of energy to end the half with a jumpshot and layup to bring them into an eight-point lead. Heading into halftime, the Cougars trailed 33-25.

 

  

  

Second Half

Brown started the scoring in the second half after being sent to the charity stripe, making both free throws. The Warriors came into the half hot, and increased their lead to as much as 16 points with 11 minutes to go in the game, and only allowed eight Cougar points, making the score 51-35. After a media timeout, the teams would exchange buckets, but the Warriors continued to grow their lead until the final buzzer. After 40 minutes of intense play, the Warriors came out on top, 76-54.
