RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- After big opening weekend for the Cougars, one stole the show and earned himself the first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) player of the week award in
Brandon Mahler (Vernon Hills, Ill.).
Mahler, a senior catcher/designated hitter, led the way for the Cougars on opening weekend, appearing in all three games. He picked up six hits in 12 at-bats with eight total RBIs and two home runs. In the season opener against Rhodes College, Mahler picked up his first home run of the season along with five RBIs. Against Franklin College, he hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to spur a six-run top of the inning that got the Cougars back in the contest. Mahler ended the weekend with a .500 batting average and a 1.083 slugging percentage. In the field, he had a clean weekend with no errors and ten putouts.
Mahler and the Cougars continue their non-conference slate with a trip to Florida this weekend for the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. They'll be taking on Grove City College on Saturday, February 28th, with first pitch set for 11:00 am EST. Coverage can be found at cuocugars.com.
