Cougars’ Persistence Pays Off Against Aurora

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's soccer team welcomed the Spartans of Aurora University to Concordia Stadium for a rainy afternoon matchup. After great offensive efforts from both sides, the Cougars took the win 1-0.
 
Inside the Box
  • The Cougars forced a total of seven saves onto the Spartans' goalkeeper, while Katelyn Wagner (Lagrange, Ky.) was only forced into one save.
  • Natalie Flores (Placentia, Calif.) scored the Cougars' sole goal of the match, along with managing two shots on goal.
  • Erika Flores (Oxnard, Calif.) contributed four shots, three of which were on goal, while Mia Hirayama (Mililani, Hawaii) contributed three shots.
 
First Half
  • The Cougars offensive effort began early on, with N. Flores, E. Flores and Hirayama attempting shots at the net.
  • Two of those players forced early saves onto the Spartans' goalie, leaving their opponents to fend off the Cougars' attacks.
  • The Cougars managed nine shots to the net, six of which being on frame; the Cougars continued in their aggressive fight, Stacey Maskery (Alfreton, England) coming in and playing fast on the field.
  • Both teams headed into the half scoreless, finding their rhythm and putting pressure on one another.
 
Second Half
  • The Cougars finally broke through to the scoreboard in the 54th minute; Reagan Espinoza (Ventura, Calif.) assisted N. Flores into sending the ball into the bottom left side of the net, scoring the Cougars' sole goal.
  • The Cougars continued in their pursuit towards another goal - the Cougars made their way towards the net multiple times, but the Spartans' defense kept them at a distance.
  • The efforts from both sides were halted as the buzzer went off, the Cougars taking on their third NACC win of the season.
 
What's Next
