CHICAGO, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's track and field team opened the new year in Chicago, competing at the Phoenix Invitational, hosted by University of Chicago. With multiple podium finishes, the Cougars opened 2026 in style.
Notable Performances
- Vincent Scarnato (Pottstown, Pa.) took gold in the 400m with a time of 53.00. Donovan Depakakibo (Norridge, Ill.) finished fifth with a personal best time of 54.04, Jamel Goins finished sixth with a time of 54.05, and Gael Arroyo (Cicero, Ill.) finished eighth with a personal best time of 54.42.
- Austin Knight (Forest Park, Ill.) secured silver in the 200m with a time of 22.83. Coming in sixth place was Jordyn Boatman (Elmwood Park, Ill.) with a time of 23.48.
- Boatman finished sixth in the 60m finals with a time of 7.11. Knight finished eighth with a time of 7.20.
- In the 60m hurdles, Matthew Cardwell (Cincinnati, Ohio) took eighth with a time of 9.56.
- Arroyo ran a personal best 9:52.32 in the 3000m to place seventh.
- In the field, Boatman secured bronze with a leap of 6.15m in the long jump. Jayden Taylor (Southfield, Mich.) followed with a leap of 6.09m.
- Knight took eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.75m.
- With a mark of 12.97m, Brandon Montford (Fairburn, Ga.) took fifth in the shot put.
