RIVER FOREST, ILL. – For the first home game of the 2025 season, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team took to the brand new turf for an afternoon matchup with Elmhurst University, falling 4-0.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Six Cougars got their first career start in the maroon and gold.
- Stacey Maskery (Alfreton, England) was responsible for the long Cougar shot on the day.
- Two athletes saw time in the net with Naomi Gonzales (Santa Rosa, Calif.) making the start and Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) entering for the second half. Combined the duo picked up five saves on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bluejays got things underway quickly and put up their first shot of the day within the first minute of the game. Wasting no time after the initial shot, the Bluejays would then pickup a corner kick within the first five minutes and put up their first goal of the day a minute later.
- The Bluejays would continue to go on a run and add two more goals within a matter of ten minutes to go ahead 3-0 over the Cougars.
- With the Bluejays controlling the majority of the possession, the Cougars would struggle to gain offensive momentum, but Maskery would be able to sneak through and get a shot off before the Cougars would be plagued by an offisdes call to break up their last offensive burst of the half.
- Once again wasting no time, the Bluejays would put up their final goal of the day within the first four minutes of the half.
- The Cougars would once again struggle to gain offensive momentum, but would be held together by the lockdown defense. With multiple blocked shots and Cougar defenders shutting down any chance at the Bluejays finding the net on a corner kick, they would round the game out trailing 4-0.
The Cougars have a short recovery time as they'll be back in action on Sunday with another home game against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Kickoff is set for 2:00pm with coverage at cucougars.com/coverage.
