DE PERE, Wis. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's track & field team competed in the final day of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Cougars shined, breaking multiple school records collecting multiple medals, and having
Austin Knight (Forest Park, Ill.) named NACC Track Athlete of the Year. Overall, CUC finished fifth of 12 teams with 70 points.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Knight put in a school record breaking performance to win the 200m dash. His gold medal time was 21.57, which is a personal best and breaks the previous record of 21.67, set by Merrell Davis in 2012. Knight also PR'd in the 100m, running a 10.77 to finish 2nd.
- Jamel Goins (Columbus, Ohio) also broke a school record today. He set a personal best time of 55.96 in the 400m hurdles to take bronze. This breaks the previous record of 56.09, set by Scotty Rein in 2018.
- Miguel Sanchez (San Antonio, Texas) took home gold in the 400m, with a time of 49.48. Also in the 400m, Vincent Scarnato (Pottstown, Pa.) placed fourth with a time of 50.64.
- The 4x100m relay team of Scarnato, Julian Switzer (Lake in the Hills, Ill.), Sanchez, and Knight secured gold with a time of 42.08.
- Also taking gold was the 4x400m relay team of Sanchez, Scarnato, Goins, and Knight, with a time of 3:22.87.
- In the Decathlon, Matthew Cardwell (Cincinnati, Ohio) took the bronze medal with 4810 points. In today's events, he finished fourth in the 110m hurdles with a PR of 18.11, 10th in the discus throw with a mark of 24.38m (80-0.00), eighth in the pole vault with a height of 2.90m (9-6.25), seventh in the javelin throw with a mark of 34.26m (112-5.00), and third in the 1500m with a personal best time of 5:00.25.
- Also scoring points were Brandon Montford (Fairburn, Ga.) and Darius Strother (Joliet, Ill.). Montford finished sixth in the shot put with a personal best mark of 13.56m (44-5.75) while Strother took eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.76m (5-9.25).
COUGAR PERSONAL RECORDS
- Donovan Depakakibo (Norridge, Ill.), Cameron Mitchell (Racine, Wis.), and Kam Jackson (Chicago, Ill.) all set personal bests in the 1500m, running 4:35.97, 4:36.13, and 4:44.52, respectively.
- In the hammer throw, two Cougars set personal records. Travon Thomas (Wauchula, Fla.) recorded a mark of 33.37m (109-6.00) and Wykhir Jones (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded a mark of 32.15m (105-6.00).
- Josiah Morris registered a personal best leap of 6.00m (19-8.25) in the long jump.
