DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Making their return to the national stage, the Concordia University Chicago dance team took the stage in Florida for the National Dance Association (NDA) College Dance Nationals preliminary rounds in both Pom and Team Performance.
NDA Nationals is the largest competitive dance competition in the United States with many different categories that teams can compete in. This year, CUC competed in Pom and Team Performance, making their way to the finals for their Pom performance.
In Pom, the Cougars scored well on day one with no deductions. They earned a perfect ten in their collegiate image category while scoring high in performance impression and staging. They also received high remarks in their opening movements as well as their delivery through the early goings of the routine as well as their pristine footwork. After hitting zero, they advanced to the finals for the first time in program history in their Pom routine with a final score of 82.57.
After waiting all day following their finals clinching Pom routine, the team took the floor once again at 6:12pm for their Team Performance. Despite putting up solid remarks in their execution, the division remained tough and the Cougars would finish in fifth place and miss clinching finals.
Despite missing the finals in Team Performance, the Cougars still wrote their name in CUC Dance history, making their first ever appearance in the NDA finals with their Pom routine. Their finals routine is set for tomorrow, April 11
th, at 12:27 PM EDT. Coverage and results can be found at cucougars.com.
