- Immediately after, Mahler would put a solo shot over and put the Cougars up 3-0.
- With the Firebirds having a chance to put some runs up, Renella would pitch to four batters before closing out the inning, keeping them scoreless.
- Another big inning for the Cougar bats would start with a walk for Yashion Boswell (Lynwood, Ill.) before a double through the left side would add another tally on the board. With bases loaded, a walk for Krater would send another run across the plate to put the Cougars up 5-0.
- Holding the Firebirds scoreless for another two innings, the Cougars would head to the field in the top of the fifth where they would put up three runs on three hits, closing the gap on the Cougars.
- The game would sit stagnant until the bottom of the seventh where another homerun from Krater would put the final run of the game on the board.
- Heading to the top of the ninth, the Cougars would turn to Kyle Connelly (New Lenox, Ill.) to close the game where two strikeouts and a line drive to Michael Kasik (Chandler, Ariz.) at first would end the game with the Cougars on top 6-3.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Brandon Mahler (Vernon Hills, Ill.) led the charge going four-for-six at the plate with two RBIs and three runs.
- Cam Buckley (New Lenox, Ill.) had a day going two-for-four at the plate with three RBIs and two runs, including a triple.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Ravens jumped ahead right away with five runs off four hits in the first inning and put the Cougars in an early deficit. Struggling to get things going, the Cougars eventually fell into a 12-1 deficit in the fourth inning.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars got to work with a leadoff double from B. Mahler while a walk for J. Mahler would put two runners on base. A double through the left side for Boswell would score one before a triple to left field from Buckley would clear the bases. A sac fly for Xavier Zagerman (Chandler, Ariz.) would score Buckley and bring the score to 12-5.
- Three up, three down with Tietyen on the mound would hand things back over to the Cougar hitters where hits from both Mahlers and Buckley paired with a sac fly from Boswell would score two.
- Another three up, three down inning for Tietyen would once again put the bats in the hands of the Cougars where two more runs would bring them within three.
- With the Ravens tacking on another two runs, the Cougars once again were set with five run deficit where it would come down to the bottom of the ninth.
- B. Mahler would kick things off with a leadoff single before advancing to second on a balk. J. Mahler would single to left field and send his brother home and bring the game within four runs. A single from Boswell paired with a stolen base would put two runners in scoring position before a sac fly from Zagerman would score one.
- A single to center from Hickman would score another and a double from Tyler Dorsch (Phoenix, Ariz.) would put the tying run in scoring position. This would force the Ravens to swap pitchers and enter their top arm to try to hold off the Cougar comeback.
- Back-to-back walks would score another run and load the bases with the Cougars only trailing by one. Unable to convert with two outs, the Cougars would fall 15-14.
