Stringer Picks Up Lone Point for Cougars in First Match of 2025

COUNTRYSIDE, ILL. - The Concordia University Chicago men's tennis team kicked off the 2025 season with a home non-conference match with the Lawrence University Vikings. The Cougars battled in doubles, but failed to pick up a point while a lot of battles were seen across singles with only one point awarded to the Cougars.

DOUBLES
CUC kicked things off with some fresh doubles pairings in Collin Dickey (Frisco, Texas) and Reynaldo Leal (Weslaco, Texas) at the #1 spot, Sam Smith (Munster, Ind.) and Nathan Stringer (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the #2, and Kevin Bullens (River Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Pelzek (Hales Corners, Wis.) in the #3 spot. Bullens and Pelzek put up the hardest fight, falling in their match 6-3.

SINGLES
After leading the Cougars through last season, Dickey found his way back into the #1 spot for the Cougars where he fell to his Viking competition 6-2 and 6-1. Battling in his own match, Stringer would fall behind in set one 6-2, but find redemption in a reverse 6-2 set before heading to the tie breaker. In a first-to-ten set, Stringer would down his competitor 10-6 and secure the lone point for the Cougars.

In the remaining singles, the Cougars would score a combined five points across six sets and ultimately fall to the Vikings. This squad will be back in action on February 22nd as they head North to take on Ripon College and University of Dubuque in a doubleheader slated for 9:00am and 12:00pm first serves.
