Forest Grove, Ore. - In their first game of the Schumann Classic, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team took on George Fox University. After some intense game play, the Cougars gained their first win of the season, defeating their opponents 78-66.

Here's What Happened
First Half
The Cougars were the first to score with a tip-in from
Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.), followed by two layups from Garrett, putting them up 6-2. A 3-pointer was made by a Bruin, tying up the teams 6-6. Garret broke the tie with a layup on the fast break; Williams showed out with a 3-pointer jumper, pushing on the Cougar's lead. A layup from a Bruin had put their team within two, but a retaliating Brown and Zimmer made sure the gap didn't grow further. A tip-in from the Bruins put them over 20 points, but 3-point jumpers from Garrett and
Sebastian Hill (Decatur, Ill.) kept the Cougars in an 11-point advantage, 32-21. The Bruins fought back, but the Cougars remained in the lead with 11 points. The Cougars went into halftime in the lead, 36-29.

Second Half
Williams started off the scoring for the half with a 3-point jumper, continuing to keep the Cougars up by 10 points. The Bruins tried cutting into that lead, but Lowery put it right back up with a jumper.
Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) joined in the scoring with some free throws and a layup, along with a layup from Zimmer, helping the Cougars hit one of their highest lead of the night, 48-31. Free throws from Williams and a jumper from Johnson had put the Cougars past the 20-point mark against the Bruins. A layup from Lowery further strengthened that lead. The Bruins began to fight back with layups, shortening the gap to 18 points. The Bruins continued to score until the gap was at 11 points, but free throws from
Kenton Pryor (Hazel Crest, Ill.) brought things back up. The Bruins went on a 6-0 run before free throws by Zimmer and Williams broke the streak, 66-57. With 3:00 remaining, the Cougars made it to 70 points; Zimmer had put up five points with 1:16 remaining, 75-62. The Cougars ended the game with a final score of 78-66, defeating the Bruins.
