Decatur, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's basketball team made their way to Decatur, Ill. to face off against the Big Blue of Millikin University. After a hard-fought battle, with intense defensive play from both sides, the Big Blues defeated the Cougars with a final score of 76-62.
Inside the Score Box
- Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) was the leader of the night with 13 points and three rebounds, followed by Sebastian Hill (Decatur, Ill.), who had a career-high 10 points.
- Vic Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) led in rebounds with 10 in total, along with pulling in eight points for the Cougars.
- Andreas Louloudis (Thessaloniki, Greece) had eight points, four steals and one rebound.
- Honore Yangoua (Williamstown, Ky.) ended the night with six points and two rebounds.
Here's What Happened
First Half
Nearly two minutes after the half began,
Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) sank a three-point jumper for the Cougars, being the first on the board. Yangoua, with the help of Garrett, had put down a three, putting the Cougars up 8-6. Williams was next in the three-point line-up, making sure to keep the Cougars in the lead. This lead was short-lived as the Big Blue managed to go on a 9-0 run ahead of the Cougars before Williams broke their streak with a three-point jumper, followed by another three-pointer nearly four minutes later. Hill was able to put some points up for the Cougars with a quick jumper. With 1:30 remaining, the Big Blue had a 10-point lead on the Cougars; the Big Blue went into halftime with an eight-point advantage, 33-25.
Second Half
Yangoua was first to score for the half with a free throw, followed quickly by a three-pointer by
Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.). Next, Louloudis was able to put some work in with a nice three-pointer.
Jacob Robinson (Saint Louis, Mo.) was able to put down a three-pointer after a slight scoring delay from the Cougars.
Matthew Guthrie (Carlyle, Ill.) was in the paint and got a layup and a free throw in, slowly helping to close the point gap between the teams, 48-41. This achievement wasn't enough as the Big Blue managed to build up an 11-point advantage on the Cougars with 8:50 remaining. Garrett battled to the ground with the ball and teammate
AJ Willard (Germantown, Wis.) was able to get it up and come in with a layup. A three-pointer from Louloudis was able to put the Cougars within eight, 58-50. The Cougars continued with their fight as Hill landed a three-point jumper easily. The Cougars were aggressive defensively, but that proved to not be enough as the Big Blue were victorious in the end with the final score being 76-62.
