This Week in CUC Athletics: November 10-16

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – We might've seen the first snowfall of the year, but Concordia University Chicago (CUC) athletics continues to stay hot on the court and field. Check out what happened this week.
 
Women's Volleyball (6-20, 2-11)
The women's volleyball team finished out their season with two Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) matches this week.

The Cougars first took on Dominican University on Thursday and swept the Stars, 3-0. Indiah Day (Merrillville, Ind.) led the team with 11 total kills, five digs, and one block. Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) followed with eight kills and two blocks while Neva Foster (Parker, Colo.) had seven kills and two blocks. Eva Fitzgerald (Houston, Texas) and Malainna Adler (Fenton, Mo.) shared the wealth and each registered 15 assists. Defensively, Rosemary Brenner (Frankenmuth, Mich.) recorded 14 digs.

In the final match of the season, CUC fell 3-0 to the Lakeland University Muskies. Hunt secured the most kills for the Cougars with eight and recorded one ace, one block, and six digs. Day totaled six kills, one ace, and seven digs. Fitzgerald led in assists with 13, followed closely behind by Adler, who registered 10 assists. Janelle White (Morton Grove, Ill.) added 12 digs.
CUC finished the season with an overall record of 6-20 and 2-11 in NACC play.
 
Cross Country
The Cougars will round out the season at the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday, November 15, in Waverly, Iowa.
 
Football (4-5, 2-5)
CUC fell to Benedictine University, 38-7.

Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) passed for 136 yards on 11 completions, including one touchdown. Kevon Lawson (Pompano Beach, Fla.) led in the air with seven receptions for a total of 74 yards and one touchdown. Josiah Lugo (San Antonio, Texas) rushed for 44 yards. Devean Shearer (Saint Charles, Ill.) and Kadin Stroer (Warrenton, Mo.) tied for a team-high nine tackles.

The Cougars finish out the season on Saturday, November 15. CUC will host Aurora University at 12:00 pm.
 
Esports
Esports played two matches this week.

In Smash, the Cougars won 2-0 against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) Esports Black. James Bruxvoort (Holland, Mich.) took 17 of the 24 the Cougars needed to win the match. In game one, Bruxvoort singlehandedly took down UWSP. In game two, every Cougars took at least one stock, with Chrisovalanti Charisis taking four to help secure the win. With the victory, CUC secured the eighth seed in the playoffs. The Cougars will play No. 1 Edinboro University on Tuesday, November 11, at 6:00 pm.

In Overwatch, the Cougars were forced to forfeit their final match and finished the season with a 2-4 record.
 
Women's Basketball (0-1, 0-0)
The women's basketball team opened its season against Franklin College and fell 85-26.

Grace King (Fairland, Ind.)  led CUC with 10 points and nine rebounds. Ai Yonemura (Yachiyo, Chiba-Japan) followed with five points while Abbi Dykstra (Yale, Mich.) totaled four rebounds.

The Cougars are busy this week with three games. CUC will have its home opener on Tuesday, November 11, at 7:00 pm against North Central College. Then on Friday, November 14, the Cougars will head to Notre Dame, Ind. to play Saint Mary's College (Ind.) at 7:00 pm. The following day, the squad will play Albion College at 2:00 pm.
 
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team had its home opener against Greenville University. It was an intense battle, as the Cougars held their own but came up just short, 94-90.

Vic Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) was the team's top scorer with 16 points. He also added three rebounds. Andreas Louloudis (Thessaloniki, Greece) followed with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two steals. Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) walked away with 12 points, three rebounds, and four assists, while Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas) totaled 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Honore Yangoua (Williamstown, Ky.) led the team in rebounds with 10, followed closely behind by Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) with nine.

CUC will only have one game this week. The squad will head to Decatur, Ill. to face Millikin University on Wednesday, November 12. Tipoff is at 7:00 pm.
