Cougars Unable to Overcome Early Deficit Against Falcons

River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team welcomed the Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) this past afternoon. Even as the Cougars finally found some footing in the second half, it proved to not be enough as they fell 2-0 against the Falcons.

Inside the Box
  • Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) recorded seven saves against the Falcons.
  • The Cougars' only goal came from Caleb Kale (Moline, Ill.), along with having four attempted shots, similarly to Michael Senese (Naperville, Ill.), who also had four attempted shots.
  • Both Juan Moresco (Mercedes, Soriano) and Justin Ocampo (Melrose Park, Ill.) walked away with two shots.

First Half
  • In the 7th minute, Giovanni Lechuga (Monrovia, Calif.) made a close attempt to score against CUW, but missed the opportunity to shoot by a block from the CUW goalkeeper; another more centered attempt to score was also made by Moresco.
  • The Cougars brought the pressure with their defense and managed to gain possession of the ball multiple times against the Falcons.
  • In the 28th minute, CUW were first on the scoreboard with a goal.
  • Gudiel showed out with his multiple saves, including a save at the top center of the net about three minutes before the break.

Second Half
  • In the 52nd minute, CUW was able to get past Gudiel and score another goal at the bottom center of the goal, pushing the Falcons ahead 2-0.
  • In the 57th minute, the Cougars finally made their way onto the scoreboard with a goal assisted by Senese, but made by Kale off of his right foot into the bottom right side of the goal.
  • The Cougars switched tactics during this half with better offensive play, notably with Andre Wangandu (Lansing, Mich.) and his overall fight against the Falcons, along with Asael Castaneda (Bensenville, Ill.) and his major footwork.
  • After the Cougars obtained their first and only point, the Falcons kept them at bay, where the Cougars fell 2-0.
