River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team welcomed the Eagles of Edgewood University. After a tough first half and an even trickier second half, the Eagles beat out the Cougars 9-0.
Inside the Box
First Half
- In the 3rd minute of gameplay, the Eagles were first on the scoreboard with a shot into the top center of the goal. The Eagles began their lead early on with 1-0.
- Gudiel showed major strength on the defensive side for the Cougars as he performed multiple saves throughout the half, most remarkably, his diving saves for some close calls.
- In the 20th minute, the Eagles scored their second goal with a kick into the bottom left side of the goal, putting the Eagles up to 2-0. Less than 30 seconds later, a rebound gave the Eagles an additional goal, putting the Eagles up 3-0.
- In the 25th minute, the Eagles scored their fourth goal; they continued to push the Cougars further back with another goal in the 29th minute, making the score 5-0.
- The Cougars struggled to get going offensively but kept the Eagles at bay until halftime.
Second Half
- In the 61st minute, the Eagles scored a goal into the top center of the goal, keeping the Eagles in the lead with 6-0.
- Juan Moresco (Mercedes, Soriano) stepped up to the plate for the Cougars' defense, clearing balls out of the box to deny the Eagles chances.
- Caleb Kale (Moline, Ill.) and Daniel Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill.) found more offense in the second half, working to steal the ball away from their opponents.
- The closest the Cougars were able to get to the net in the half was through Salamanca and Valesquez, who took some of the closest shots at the Eagles' net. Valesquez narrowly missed the net and Salamanca hit the woodwork.
- At the end of the 81st minute, the Eagles recorded their seventh goal into the top center of the net against the Cougars; the Eagles continued on by making an eighth goal in the 85th minute.
- In the 87th minute, the Eagles scored their ninth and final goal into the top center of the goal, sweeping the Cougars 9-0.
