LISLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team traveled to Lisle for a Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchup against the Benedictine University Eagles. It was a tight back-and-forth battle and the Cougars walked away with a 0-0 draw.
Inside the Box
- Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) played a crucial part in earning the point, denying the Eagles from the penalty spot.
- Bernado Delgado (Morelia, Michoacán) had the lone shot on goal while Juan Moresco (Mercedes, Soriano) also recorded a shot.
First Half
- The Cougars and Eagles both found their footing at the beginning of the game, going back-and-forth up the field.
- In the ninth minute, Andre Wangandu (Lansing, Mich.) brought the ball up the field but his cross into the box couldn't quite find another Cougar and was kicked away by Benedictine's defense.
- CUC's backline of Asael Castaneda (Bensenville, Ill.), Daniel Gutierrez (Chicago, Ill.), Wangandu, and Moresco kept Benedictine from any proper chances to pressure Gudiel in goal.
- In the 23rd minute, Delgado found himself some space and tried to blast one into the top of the net, but the Eagles' goalkeeper got his hands on it and denied the Cougars.
- The Eagles had one attempt on frame just before halftime, but Gudiel easily scooped up the low shot and the teams went into the break scoreless.
Second Half
- The teams continued to battle back-and-forth in the second half. Neither squad was able to connect the final pass in their respective attacking thirds.
- Moresco had the best attempt of the half in the 74th minute, forcing the Eagles' goalkeeper once again to stretch up to deny the Cougars the go-ahead.
- In the 80th minute, a foul in the box gave the Eagles a penalty kick. One-on-one, Gudiel remained cool, calm, and collected, diving to his left to make the save and keep the game level.
- Benedictine had a barrage of corner kicks in the final minute of the game, but strong Cougar defense kept the ball out of the net and CUC walked away with a 0-0 draw.
