RIVER FOREST, ILL. – The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team was back on its home turf this afternoon, hosting the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran. Unfortunately, the Cougars came out of the match on the wrong side of a 2-1 scoreline. Concordia is now 1-7 (0-4 NACC).
Inside the Box
- Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.) and Michael Senese (Naperville, Ill.) each had a shot on goal, with Senese leading the team with three shots.
- Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) made three saves throughout the game.
How it Happened
Within the first few minutes of the game, Gudiel made two saves to keep the Cougars level and work their way forward.
Omar Figueroa (Chicago, Ill.),
Justin Ocampo (Melrose Park, Ill.), and Senese each created their own chances, but didn't find the back of the net. However, the Warriors were able to find the back of the net and take the lead in the 16
th minute. Senese came close to a response, knocking the ball off the post in the 28
th minute. Concordia continued to battle throughout the half.
In the second 45 minutes, Gudiel made an important save at the beginning of the half once again. Poynter and Senese threatened the Warriors' lead, with shots that forced saves from Wisconsin Lutheran's goalkeeper. The teams went back and forth but the Warriors were able to score again in the 83
rd minute and take the game 2-0.
