RIVER FOREST, ILL. – In a hardfought Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) battle, the Concordia University Chicago Cougars battled with the Marian University Sabres, falling 7-4.
Before the game, the Cougars honored their three seniors in
Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.), Zachary Lewandowski (West Dundee, Ill.), and Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.).
INSIDE THE BOX
- Lechuga, Henry Hayes (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and Carter Jedras (Mount Prospect, Ill.) were the lone Cougar goal scorers.
- Seba Miller (Cherry Hill, N.J) went 8-12 on faceoffs with seven total shots and one assist.
- Miller and Dalton Baird (Clearwater, Fla.) each picked up four groundballs
- Borkowski picked up 15 saves on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sabres struck first after a pair of Borkowski saves held them off for the first seven minutes of the first quarter. After breaking through the initial goal, the Sabres would tack on three more in the first quarter to take the 4-0 lead.
- Fresh into the second quarter the Cougars kicked things into high gear and went on a dominant run capitalized by back-to-back goals for Jedras and Hayes, making it a two point deficit for the Cougars.
- The Sabres would sneak one more goal in before Lechuga would send a crafty shot in for his second goal of the season and bring the Cougars back within two before one last goal for to close the first half for the Sabres would leave the Cougars trailing by three.
- The Cougars would strike first in the third quarter with Jedras' second goal of the day to make it a two point game once again.
- The Sabres would tack on one more goal in the third quarter and then remain stagnant for the rest of the game. The Cougars would be unable to find another offensive burst and fall 7-4.
