Borkowski Breaks Single-Game Save Record In Loss To Eagles

MADISON, WIS. — Officially opening up conference play, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's lacrosse team traveled off-campus to play Edgewood College. With four quarters of action packed play, the Cougars lost to the Eagles with a final score of 22-0.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.) broke the Cougar men's lacrosse single-game save records by recording 29 on the night

  • Both Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.) and Henry Hayes (Oconomowoc, Wis.) took the most shots of the night, both recording three apiece

First Half

Borkowski would start off hot with a save and ground ball, before Edgewood would come down field to score 1-0. Lechuga then took his first shot of the game, which would be saved by the Eagles goaltender. Edgewood would then go on a rampage, taking an extremely quick lead of 6-0 before closing the first quarter.

The Eagles kept up their momentum, scoring again to start the second quarter 7-0. They then scored a double back-to-back play, taking the Eagle lead to 11-0. The Cougars were able to cause some turnovers, courtesy of Dalton Baird (Clearwater, Fla.) and Brady Dennis (South Glens Falls, N.Y.), to get the ball back in their hands. Hayes would get another shot off, but not close enough to get into the goal for a point.

Edgewood would continue their momentum until halftime, leading 16-0.

Second Half

Lechuga and Hayes started off this half leading the offense, before a Cougar turnover would give the ball back to the Eagles. Edgewood would take advantage of this, scoring 17-0. Borkowski would continue to be vigilant in goal, picking up multiple saves. A couple of these shots would trickle in, with Edgewood leading 19-0 into the final quarter.

Dennis would get an opportunity to shoot towards goal, but would be too wide in his attempt. Edgewood would then score a couple of more goals before closing out this game 22-0. The Cougars would fall to the Eagles with a final score of 22-0.

The Cougars will be back in River Forest on Wednesday, as they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
