RIVER FOREST, ILL. – The Concordia University Chicago Cougar men's lacrosse team (0-1, 0-0 NACC) kicked off their season at home with a non-conference matchup against Earlham College (1-1, 0-0 HCAC), falling 9-3.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Seba Miller (Cherry Hill, N.J.) led the Cougars with two goals and one assist. He totaled seven shots with five shots on goal while also picking up three groundballs.
- Henry Hayes (Oconomowoc, Wis.) was the only other Cougar to score on the day picking up his first career goal while adding in one assist on five shots, two shots on goal, and two groundballs.
- Gregory Scott (Asheville, N.C.)led the defensive end with four groundballs while adding in three shots, two which were on goal.
- Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.) finished the game with 14 saves on the day.
FIRST HALF
The Cougars struck first after an early save from Borkowski sent the ball into Cougar possession. Some back-and-forth from the Quakers and Cougars would result in a save from Borkowski ten minutes into the first quarter which would give the Cougars a chance for a timeout. Fresh out of the timeout, Miller would secure his first goal of his career.
Mere minutes later, the Cougars would go up 2-0 after an extra-man goal for Hayes off the dish from Miller would give yet another career first goal on the day.
Strong defensive efforts from the Cougars would close the first quarter with the 2-0 lead. Fresh into the second quarter, an early goal from Miller would give the Cougars the 3-0 lead. The shot from ten yards out would give Miller a new career-high two goals and give the Cougars the lead they would hold heading into the second half.
SECOND HALF
With the lead after 30 minutes, the Cougars came out in the second half battling on defense. With the Quakers still hunting for their first goal, they would find net in the first four minutes of the second half to cut the Cougar lead down to two. A back-and-forth battle with the Cougars and Quakers would see the exchange of shots but strong goalie efforts would keep things stagnant until two quick Quaker goals would tie the game up. Strong defense from the Cougars would keep things tied up for the remainder of the third quarter before the Quakers would take control of the final 15 minutes.
In the final 15, the Quakers would find another quick two goals within the first minute to steal the lead from the Cougars for the first time of the day. Struggling to find their first half power, the Cougars would let up another three goals and fall to the Quakers 9-3.
