BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's track & field team opened the season today at the Holiday Open, hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. The Cougars started the season off strong, cracking the top 10 in multiple events.
Notable PerformancesÂ
- In the 60m hurdles, senior Eve Shelton (St. Louis, Mo.) ran a 9.19 in the preliminaries and a 9.30 in the finals to finish third. Fellow senior Jerzey Allen (Bevier, Mo.) ran a 10.39 in the preliminaries and improved in the finals with a 10.02 to finish seventh.
- Another senior put their mark on the day, as Tegan Oas (Shingle Springs, Calif.) finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 2:37.01.
- Izzy Fairless (Royal Oak, Mich.) set a personal record in the mile of 5:41.37, to place third.
- Two other Cougars nabbed top-10 honors in the mile. Breanna Walters (Poplar Grove, Ill.) finished eighth (6:13.78) and Lydia Anderson (Carpentersville, Ill.) finished ninth (6:16.46).
- Kicking off the field events, Noor Sammour (Berwyn, Ill.) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.45m (4-9.00), while Harmonie Cooper (Chicago, Ill.) finished fifth with a mark of 1.35m (4-5.00).
- Sammour also took eighth in the triple jump with a time of 9.82m (32-2.75).
- Jumping 4.72m (15-6.00), Aniyah Isom (Chicago, Ill.) finished sixth.
- Velda Ndang finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 10.96m (35-11.50).
- Two Cougars placed in the top-10 of the weight throw. Elyse Stilson (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Madalyn Smock (Poplar Grove, Ill.) finished seventh and eighth respectively with marks of 8.56m (28-1.00) and 8.11m (26-7.25).
Cougar Personal Records
Ariel Easterwood (St. Louis, Mo.) set a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 4.42m (14-6.00).
Competition picks up again in the new year as the Cougars head to Naperville, Ill. for the Cardinal Opener, hosted by North Central College, on January 10, 2025.
