MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Chicago women's soccer team (7-9-4, 3-5-4 NACC) competed in the quarterfinals of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) playoffs this afternoon. As the No. 7 seed, the Cougars traveled to Milwaukee, Wis. to face the No. 2 seed Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) (14-4-2, 9-1-2 NACC). Despite taking an early lead, the Cougars saw their season come to an end, falling 3-1, to the Raiders.
Inside the Box
- Itzel Calderon (Oak Lawn, Ill.) scored Concordia's lone goal, in the third minute, assisted by Mia Hirayama (Mililani, Hawaii).
- Pamela Saldivar (Chicago, Ill.), Allie Brown (St. Louis, Mo.), and Elle Wheelock (Holland, Mich.) each registered a shot for the Cougars.
- Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) made eight saves.
How It Happened
Concordia prowled up the field as Brown took the first shot of the game just over two minutes in. The Cougars earned a corner kick, kept up the offensive pressure, and in the third minute of play, Calderon put the ball in the back of the net, assisted by Hirayama. Unfortunately, 10 minutes later, the Raiders would equalize. From then on, MSOE took more control, putting Sheriff under pressure. Sheriff would make four saves throughout the half, but the Raiders found the back of the net twice more and led 3-1 at halftime.
In the second half, the Cougars had one shot that came in the 59
th minute from Wheelock, but it was saved by MSOE's goalkeeper. Sheriff remained strong in net and made four more saves to deny the Raiders any more goals. Yet at the end of 90 minutes, the Cougars fell 3-1 to close out the season.
