DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (2-8, 1-5 NACC) competed in its second road match of the week this evening, battling the Green Knights of St. Norbert (3-6-3, 3-2-1 NACC). The Cougars went down in the first half, and fought back in the second, but ultimately fell 4-2.
Inside the Box
- Spencer Nicholson (Fort Collins, Colo.) put the Cougars on the board in the 53rd minute, scoring from the penalty spot.
- Ronaldo Joseph (Mt. Rush, St. George's, Granada) put one in the net for the Cougars in the 80th minute.
- Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) made five saves in the first half while Kyle Schultz (Pingree Grove, Ill.) made two saves in the second.
- Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.) led the team with five of the Cougars' 11 shots.
How it Happened
Alexander Lechowicz (Chicago, Ill.) got to work for Concordia early, having his shot saved in the third minute. Just a few minutes later, Gudiel made a save to keep the game level. However, the Green Knights were able to sneak one into the net in the 19
th minute. St. Norbert then doubled their lead in the 40
th minute. Poynter and Ronaldo took their chances up top, but the Cougars were held scoreless, down 2-0, at the break.
The Green Knights extended their lead in the 51
st minute to three goals. Yet the Cougars continued to battle and press up the field, undeterred. In the 53
rd minute, Concordia was awarded a penalty kick. Nicholson stepped up and hit it with precision into the corner, closing the gap.
Unfortunately, St. Norbert rebuilt their lead to three goals, going up 4-1 in the 60
th minute. Yet the Cougars continued to battle and fight for chances. In the 80
th minute, Ronaldo robbed the Green Knights of the ball and sent one towards the net. A Green Knight defender tried to keep it out, but Ronaldo had too much power and got it over the line, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
The Cougars kept fighting for another one, but were held to just the two goals, and fell 4-2.
