River Forest, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) Cougars stayed at home for a battle of the Concordia's. The Cougars competed against the Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) Falcons in competitive NACC action. The Falcons took all three sets and won 3-0.

Here's What Happened
Set One
The set started off slow for the Cougars where the Falcons went on a 4-0 run. The Cougars were able to answer back shortly after with kills from Perkins and Christensen. Roethel of the Cougars was also able to get an ace, which made the score 5-4, in favor of the falcons. After a few kills from the Falcons, the Cougars had a huge block from Perkins and Christensen in an attempt to shift momentum.
However, the Falcons kept the momentum in their favor. The Cougars were able to get a few kills of their own from Perkins and McKayla LeVoy (Kankakee, Ill.), but the Cougars struggled to get more than a point at a time. The Cougars took their first timeout of the day when the score was 13-8 in favor of the Falcons. Out of timeout the Cougars came with some fire and earned kills by Kate Foley (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Christensen. The Cougars now only trailed by four.
The Cougars were only able to score six more points in the set, highlighting kills from Christensen, Perkins, and Rachel Livesay (Medinah, Ill.). The Falcons took set one with a final score of 25-16.
Set Two
Set two started out differently than the first for the Cougars. The Cougars went on a 4-0 run highlighted by two blocks from Harmonie Cooper (Chicago, Ill.).
The Falcons responded with a three-point run with a compilation of kills. The score was now 6-4, still in favor of the Cougars. However, the Falcons began gaining momentum, and after a few shared points between the two teams, the Falcons went on a four-point run pulling them into the lead for the first time of the set where the score was 12-9. The Cougars broke the momentum for one point with a kill from Foley, however the Falcons snapped back into action and went on another four-point run forcing the Cougars into their first timeout of the night. Out of timeout the score was 16-10 in favor of the Falcons. After a kill from Perkins, the Falcons regained momentum and went on a five-point run forcing the Cougars into their second timeout of the set.
Only able to score one more point for the Cougars was Perkins with a kill. The Falcons remained victorious in the second set where the final score was 25-13. The Falcons were now up 2-0.
Set Three
Heading into the third set, neither team was able to score more than two points at a time until the Falcons were able to go into a 5-point run halfway through the set, and took the lead where the score was 16-9. The Cougars battled hard, where they were able to get kills by Foster and Perkins, an ace from Marin, and blocks from Christensen and Cooper.
Narrowing the lead, the score was 20-18, still in favor of the Falcons but the Cougars were close behind. The Falcons went on a three-point run with kills, but Christensen responded back with two consecutive kills in an attempt to shift momentum. The final points for the Cougars came from Adler as she played an out of system ball over the net, throwing off the Falcons defense.
Ultimately, the Falcons came out on top and took the third and final set with a score of 25-21. The Falcons took the game 3-0.

The rest of the season the Cougars will be competing in conference play. Next up the Cougars look to defend their home court on Thursday, October 24th to compete against Aurora University with the first serve set for 7:00 pm.
