RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Chicago men's soccer team hosted the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on this brisk October afternoon. The Cougars worked hard but fell 2-0 to the Raiders. Concordia is now 3-9 (2-6 NACC). Before today's game, the Cougars honored their seniors for their dedication to the Concordia men's soccer program.
Inside the Box
- Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.) led the team with four shots on goal.
- Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) made a career-high 10 saves in his 72 minutes of play, while Kyle Schultz (Pingree Grove, Ill.) made one save.
- Seven seniors were honored this afternoon: Poynter, Julian Yanez (Cicero, Ill.), Spencer Nicholson (Fort Collins, Colo.), Elias De Santiago (Chicago, Ill.), Ronaldo Joseph (Mt. Rush, St. George's, Grenada), Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.), and Roberto Romero (Chicago, Ill.).
How it Happened
For the first ten minutes, each team found their rhythm to work the ball up the field. Gudiel was put under pressure in the 12
th minute but made the save. This sparked an offensive chance for Poynter less than a minute later but was denied by the Raiders' goalkeeper. Gudiel multiple saves throughout the half, but MSOE was able to take the lead in the 43rd minute and keep the lead into the break.
In the second half, Poynter once again created a chance for himself early, but MSOE's goalkeeper stopped him. Gudiel was back in action in the 51
st minute, making back-to-back saves to keep the deficit to one.
However, the Raiders doubled their lead in the 78th minute. With less than five minutes left, Gudiel faced a close range shot that he kept out of the net, but at the final whistle, Concordia fell 2-0.
