Regents Dominate Cougars in Homecoming Showdown

RIVER FOREST, ILL. -- The Concordia University Chicago Cougars took to the home field for the first time since September 21st, where they welcomed the Regents of Rockford Univeristy for homecoming weekend. The Regents played hardball, and stole the sweet victory from the Cougars 74-45.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) led the way for the Cougars with 291 total yards on 14 completions with a career-high 71 yard pass.
- Jayce Levy (Davenport, Iowa) added in 75 total yards with no losses on his one rushing attempt while tacking on 71 yards in the air.
- Wesley Jackson (St. Joseph, Mich.) picked up a team high two touchdowns on the day with a total of 61 yards on four receptions.
- Jonathan Aungst (Lovells, Mich.) picked up the lone interception for the Cougars while also adding in one breakup on the day.
- Travon Thomas (Wauchula, Fla.) led the way defensively with a career-high 15 total tackles, seven of which were solo.

FIRST HALF
The Cougars won the coin toss on their celebratory day and deferred, giving the Regents the first opportunity to score. Seeing that as a challenge, the Regents would find their way onto the scoreboard less than a minute into the game to find the early 7-0 lead. The Cougars would answer back after ten total snaps and four first downs would put them in a position to score. A handoff up the middle from Troy Pratley (St. Joseph, Mich.) to Brown would level the score at seven apiece.

The Cougars would ward off the Regents for a possession, but wouldn't be able to convert themselves. Another possession for the Regents wouldn't tell the same fate, as they would find a way to steal the lead from the Cougars 14-7.Unable to answer back in the quarter, the Cougars would start to fall behind, trailign 17-7 after the first 15 minutes.

The tale of the second quarter would read in a familiar fashion as the Cougars would hold the Regents off, be unable to score, and then let the Regents find a way in. The Cougars would start to fall behind, 24-7, but a deep throw from Bosch to Levy would find its way into the endzone and cut the deficit by seven.

The Regents would strike once more before the half ended, but the team would happily break for a chance to regroup.

SECOND HALF
With the Cougars receiving first in the new half, they would quickly hand the ball over after the first snap where the Regents would score and go ahead 38-15. The Cougars would need to find a way to battle back, but a series of drives from Henry Jones IV (Atlanta, Ga.), Brown, and Bosch would eventually find its way into the endzone, cutting the score down to 38-21.

A lenghtly drive for the Cougars would result in their favor after passes for Manuel Mendoza (Ceres, Calif.), Devin Bledsoe (St. Charles, Mo.), and Jones all inched their way down the field. A field goal attempt from Ryan Auer (Newark, Ohio) would tack three more up on the board, but leave the Cougars still trailing 44-24.

With the Regents still pushing on, it would be CUC that got fired up after a "tush-push" gave Bosch the juice he needed to cross the line of scrimmage.

With Rockford seemingly running away with it, the Cougars would head into the fourth quarter trailing by 21. As the Cougars struggled to handle the fourth quarter, they would fall to the Regents 74-45.

The Cougars will hit the road once again next week as they head to St. Norbert College to take on the Green Knights at 1:00 pm. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
