Falcons Fly Away With Win Over Cougars Following Intense Battle

MEQUON, WIS. – A back-and-forth first half battle resulted in a tough fall for the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team as they head to the consolation side of the 71st Annual Concordia Invitational Tournament following the 61-44 loss to the Falcons.

INSIDE THE BOX
  • Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.) led the Cougars in scoring with eight points while picking up four rebounds.
  • Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) followed behind with seven points while leading the Cougars in rebounds with nine rebounds.
  • Making her return to the maroon and gold, Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) also picked up seven points while grabbing five rebounds.
FIRST HALF
The first ten minutes of the game proved the tale of two competitive teams as they exchanged buckets back-and-forth. A layup from MacGregor followed by jumpers from Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) would even the score at six apiece.

Added buckets from Nazuri Whigham (Naperville, Ill.), Kulig, and Wade would leave the Cougars trailing by one after the first quarter following a massive three from Wade.

Back-to-back baskets from Desjarlait would eventually give the Cougars the four point advantage forcing the Falcons to take a timeout.

A 7-0 run for the Falcons would put the Cougars behind by eight heading into halftime.

SECOND HALF
As the Falcons continued to hit the gas, they jumped out to as much as an 18-point lead with less than four minutes to play in the third quarter. Layups from MacGregor and Wade followed by free throws from Prentciss Gates would leave the Cougars trailing by 16 heading into the final ten minutes.

Needing to claw their way back with ten minutes to play, buckets from Whigham, Cydnei Mitchell (Aurora, Ill.), and Melia Perry (Plainfield, Ill.) would cut things down to a ten point deficit, but the Falcons would keep their foot on the gas and close the game with a 17-point advantage.

Following the loss, the Cougars will take on the Concordia-Ann Arbor Cardinals tomorrow, January 27th, at 12:30 pm. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
