Final Day Of CIT Results In Loss


MEQUON, WIS. — Playing in the first game of the day for the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT), the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's basketball team battled against Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) in a consolation game. This fight would end with the Cougars falling to the Cardinals 81-37. Following the action, Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) was selected for the CIT All-Tournament team for her play this weekend.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Wade led the Cougars offense on the afternoon with 13 points

  • Another Cougar joining Wade in double-digit scoring was Cydnei Mitchell (Aurora, Ill.) with 10 points 

  • Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) was the rebound leader of the day with six

 

First Half

CUAA would be the first Concordia to strike, when they went on a large run of nine points to start the match 9-0. Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.) would be the first Cougar on the board after drawing a foul and making both of her free throws 9-2. The Cardinals would continue their momentum to a score of 15-3. Wade would find some room for herself to score a jumper 17-5.

As the first quarter progressed, CUAA held CUC to a score of 26-5. To begin the second quarter, Mitchell would score before the Cardinals went on a huge rally 36-6. Wade then sunk a three-pointer to make it 36-9. Wade continued her momentum, picking up back-to-back buckets 44-31 CUAA. She would finish off the first half with a layup, to have the Cardinals leading 45-15 going into halftime.

Second Half

Coming out of the half, Mitchell would try to start a rally for the Cougars, with Wade following up with a jumper after her 48-20. The Cardinals would score a couple more, before a MacGregor layup pulled the score to 56-22.

CUAA would score two more baskets to end the third quarter 60-22. With their backs against the wall, Mitchell would make some room for herself with a two-pointer and then drove into the paint 66-26.

Mitchell continued her streak, making both of her free throws 68-28. CUAA would go on another long rally to start running away with the game 76-28. Not done yet, Prentciss Gates (Gary, Ind.) would shoot and drill two balls beyond the arc, followed by an Emma Nickerson (Lake City, Mich.) three, to finish the game off at 81-37 CUAA. The Cougars would lose this game to the Cardinals with a final score of 81-37.
