RIVER FOREST, ILL. – Looking to pick up the homecoming day win, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) football team (0-4, 0-2) hosted conference rival Concordia University Wisconsin (4-1, 3-0). The Cougars came into the game averaging 21.0 points per outing, but today scored a new season high 42 points. Despite the ample number of points, the high-octane offense was not enough as the Cougars fell to the Falcons 57-42.
Inside the Box:
- Sophomore Jakob Redmond (Bishop, Calif) got the nod at quarterback, making the first start of his career. Redmond finished the afternoon 15/21 for 248 yards and three touchdowns.
- Jayce Levy (Davenport, Iowa) was electric with the ball in his hands hauling in five passes for 95 yards and a score.
- Devin Bledsoe (St. Charles, Mo.) utilized his big frame, and came up big in the redzone, reeling in two touchdowns.
- Jaron Brown (St. Joseph's, Mich.) received the bulk of the carries. Brown rushed the ball 22 times for 95 yards and a touchdown.
First Quarter
It didn't take long for CUC to get on the board as freshman, Gavin Dace (Sullivan, Mo.), intercepted a pass and took it to the endzone sending Concordia Stadium into a frenzy. The opening touchdown only took 37 seconds off the clock to begin the first quarter.
The Falcons responded with a touchdown on their very next drive, but CUC's offense would not be stopped as Blake "Booba" Henson (Potosi, Mo.) showed off his speed for the Cougar's second touchdown of the half. The 15-yard scamper would serve as Henson's first touchdown of his sophomore campaign.
Second Quarter
The Cougar's offense hit full stride in the second quarter. It all culminated with the gutsy decision to go for it on 4th and 5. That call paid off as Redmond found Bledsoe in the back of the endzone to grow the CUC lead 21-9.
The Falcons were not down long. CUW was able to muster two-straight scoring drives to take the lead 22-21. The Cougars would go on to score once more before halftime as Redmond connected with Levy for a 72-yard bomb. Both teams would head into the lockeroom tied 29-29.
Third Quarter
Offense was hard to come by in the third quarter as CUC struggled to get into a groove. An injury on the field would force the Cougars to turn to freshman quarterback, Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.). Bosch was able to pick up six throwing yards on his two attempts before Redmond was able to return for the next CUC offensive possession. The defense also struggled allowing a pair of scores as the Falcons increased their lead 43-29.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter was a much different story as the Cougars scored on the possession that opened the quarter. Redmond found Bledsoe on a wide-open pass for his second receiving touchdown of the day with 9:32 left in regulation. The final Cougar touchdown would come at the hands of Brown as he powered his way into the endzone right before the two-minute mark.
The Cougar's late efforts fell short as CUC dropped the homecoming game 57-42.
