Cougars Fall To Eagles In Second Game of Series

RIVER FOREST, ILL. — After having to split up the original doubleheader, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) softball team hosted game two against the Benedictine University Eagles. In this late afternoon game, the Cougars would lose to the Eagles with a final score of 19-5.

Inside The Box Score:

  • Nikita Robbins (Lafayette, Ind.) was the highlight of the offense today, as she went two-for-two with an RBI, a run, and a stolen base

  • Picking up her third home run of the year was Annabella Archuletta (Pueblo, Colo.)

  • The only other Cougar to beat out an extra base hit was Gina Westphal (Elmhurst, Ill.) with a double

Benedictine would be the first team to strike as they had a lead of 2-0 after an inning of play. They would continue their rally in the second as they scored one more run at 3-0. Archuletta would help to end the imminent threat as she showed off her defensive skills at third base.

The Eagles would continue their scoring trend as they led 6-0 in the third. However, the Cougars would get the bats going to start a comeback. Westphal started with a lead-off double and was able to score off of a Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.) fielder's choice 6-1.

Melisa Hadzic (Westchester, Ill.) would then produce a sacrifice fly to score Robbins and start working back 6-2. With a huge inning ahead of them, Archuletta would send a ball out of the park to score two more Cougar runs 6-4.

Responding immediately, the Eagles would score a couple more to go up 9-4. In the bottom of the fourth, Jessica Geng (Phoenix, Ariz.) singled a shot up the middle and advanced on a pass ball to second. Robbins would then single herself, to score Geng, at 9-5.

Unfortunately, the Cougars would be unable to fight off the Eagles offense, as they were defeated 19-5.

The Cougars will be staying at home to finish off the regular season, as they host Marian University on Friday at 3 and 5 p.m. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
