MEQUON, WIS. – On day one of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Tournament, the sixth seed Concordia University Chicago Cougars fell to the third seed Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) Raiders 5-3.
INSIDE THE BOX
- Julio Cajigas (Romeoville, Ill.), Brandon Mahler (Vernon Hills, Ill.), and Jaime Sandoval (Oak Lawn, Ill.) each led the offense while picking up double on the day.
- Garry Maynard (Oswego, Ill.), Tyler Dorsch (Phoenix, Ariz.), and Caleb Anderson (Plainfield, Ill.) each recorded one hit on the day.
- Westin Stutzman (Goshen, Ind.) picked up his first loss of the season while Sammy Valdez (Plainfield, Ill.) pitched two innings without giving up any runs or hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- From the start of the game the Cougars struggled to get going offensively and were forced to play the field after three quick outs. The Raiders flipped the narrative and started their at bat off with a walk before a hit would move the runner into scoring position and the Raiders took the early 1-0 lead.
- Heading into the top of the fourth inning the Cougars were back at the top of their batting order and the Cougars were able to put two runners on base. A sacrifice fly from Michael Kasik (Chandler, Ariz.) would score one run before back-to-back doubles from Cajigas and Mahler would send two more runs in and give the Cougars the 3-2 lead for the first time of the day.
- As the Raiders continued to attack, they were able to tie things up in the bottom of the fourth before tacking on two more insurance runs.
- In a back-and-forth stalemate for the remainder of the game, the Cougars fell 5-3.
