Cicero Snags Hat Trick In Loss To Eagles

VERONA, WIS. — Taking the later afternoon game in this lacrosse doubleheader, the Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's lacrosse team took on the Edgewood College Eagles. Multiple Cougars were able to find the back of the net, but unfortunately were thwarted by the Eagles 22-6.

Inside The Box Score:

  • Grabbing his second hat trick of the season was Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.) with three goals

  • Justin Headley (Baltimore, Md.) led in the groundball category with nine and picked up two goals of his own

  • Continuing a solid season in goal, Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.) recorded his fourth 20-plus save game with 20 saves today

The Cougars were the first to strike in this game as they took advantage of the faceoff won by Headley. He quickly ran in for an unassisted goal and took the Cougar lead of 1-0. However, this would be responded by a six-goal Eagle onslaught to make the score 6-1 to end the first quarter.

To open up quarter two, Edgewood made a run of goals and made out with a big lead of 13-1. This is when CUC would begin to break through the defense. Cicero would win the faceoff and immediately go in for an unassisted goal 13-2. The next faceoff would be won by Headley and a groundball from Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.) would get the ball moving in the Cougars favor. This is where Cicero would snag his second goal of the game at 13-3. Directly after this goal, Josef Fors (Farmington, Minn.) would win the face off and Cicero would complete his hat trick at 13-4.

The third quarter would be a difficult one for CUC as they could not find a way to score. Down 20-4, the Cougars found a couple more places to score in the fourth quarter. With shots from both Cicero and Aidan Vizi (Bethel, Ct.), Headley would be the one to finally get one across 20-5. Edgewood would get a couple more goals in before Cicero added one more to the Cougars total 22-6. With this as the final score, CUC fell to Edgewood with a final score of 22-6.

The Cougars will finish off their season at Aurora University on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
