The turf was heating up today in Concordia Stadium as the Concordia sister schools took to the field. CUW would strike first as they scored less than three minutes into the game. This got the CUC train rolling Parker, with the assist from Orenstein, evened it up at 1-1.
They then would go on to score a Pietrowski free position goal and immediately score off the draw control, this time from Parker 3-1. Going into the second quarter, the Cougars had the lead in hand. However, the Falcons would steeply respond as they scored two more of their own to leave it tied 3-3 going into the half.
Out of the half, CUW took advantage of a man-up situation and took the lead 4-3. After a couple of turnovers on both sides of the field, the Cougars would score on a man-up opportunity, courtesy of Orenstein 4-4.
CUW would go on to score three goals in a row and draw a lead of 7-4. Orenstein would then fly in with a powerful goal and slam in another goal for the Cougars 7-5. The Falcons would score one more goal before moving into the final quarter 8-5.
Another goal from CUW and CUC found a way to respond. With the score at 9-5, Beetow snuck in a free position goal to begin chipping away at the lead 9-6. With an immediate punch back, the Falcons would score two more and go up 11-6.
Pietrowski would find herself one more goal, but it would be too late for a Cougars comeback. CUC fell to CUW with a final score of 11-7.
The Cougars will be on the road next week as they travel to the Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Coverage for all of our sports can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
