Long String Of Away Games Ends In Loss

WAUKESHA, WIS. — The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's lacrosse team continued their long string of road games as they traveled to Carroll University. Battling the Pioneers, the Cougars ended up falling with a score of 8-3.

Inside the Box Score:

  • Picking up the three lone goals on the day were Josef Fors (Farmington, Minn.), Justin Headley (Baltimore, Md.), and Jarred Tabor (Crystal Lake, Ill.)

  • Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.) had the lone assist of the game and led the team in ground balls with seven

  • Peter Borkowski (St. Louis, Mo.) defended in net with 13 saves

Carroll took ownership of the first quarter as they quickly went up 3-0 to start the game. Going into the second quarter, the Pioneers were able to score another goal to make it 4-0. Sebastian Miller (Cherry Hill, N.J.) was able to grab a couple of ground balls to get the ball in the Cougars possession. Zachary Lewandowski (West Dundee, Ill.) and Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.) both were able to cause turnovers to try and give CUC the edge. However, the Cougars were not able to grab any goals in the first half of play.

Opening up the third quarter, the Pioneers were able to grab another goal to bring their lead to 5-0. Headley was the first Cougar to strike as he found the back of the net to bring the score to 5-1. Cicero was able to win the next faceoff, but Carroll grabbed the ball quickly and scored another goal to go ahead 6-1. They then would go on to score two more goals and take it all the way to 8-1.

Coming out into the fourth quarter, the Cougars knew it was their time to strike. Cicero caused a turnover and then grabbed two ground balls to put the ball in CUC's hands. Borkowski was lights out in net as he stopped the Carroll University offense for the remainder of the game. Amir Cavic (Des Plaines, Ill.) picked up a caused turnover and got the momentum behind the Cougars. Tabor scored his goal, with an assist from Cicero, to make it 8-2. Almost directly after, Fors picked up his second goal of the season to bring the score to 8-3.
