CUC Drops Season Finale

RIVER FOREST, ILL. — In their final game of the 2023 season, Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer's team (0-16, 0-12) welcomed their Division Street rival, Dominican University (12-3-2, 9-1-2), to Concordia Stadium. It was also Senior Day for the Cougars, who honored their lone senior, Andrew Lechuga (El Monte, Calif.) at halftime. On the whole though, it was a tough day for CUC, who dropped the contest 3-0.

-How it Happened

First Half

Dominican struck first on their very first shot-on-goal. At the 15:02 mark, John Cronnolly potted his seventh goal of the season to put the Stars up 1-0. CUC goalie Schultz rebounded a little over a minute later by making his first save of the game.

The next shot on goal came at 32:36 when Evin Perez's shot was saved by Dominican keeper Oscar Carritos. Towards the end of the half, Schultz made back-to-back saves within a 1:12 stretch to keep the score 1-0 when halftime hit.

Halftime

At half, Lechuga was honored for his contribution to the CUC men's soccer program for Senior Day.

Second Half

The Stars added on an insurance goal just under 10 minutes into the second half thanks to former Concordia player Oscar Montejano. Poynter immediately tried to respond with a shot-on-goal, but the shot was blocked and new Stars goalie Shane Marinkovich made the save.

Matt Skorupa attempted to add on to his squad's lead at 68:24, but Schultz stood tall. However, Schultz could not stop Yael Gonzalez's shot seven minutes later, which increased Dominican's lead to 3-0.

Gonzalez's score was the last piece of offense from either team, as Dominican walked away with a 3-0 win.
