RIVER FOREST, Ill. --- The Concordia University Chicago (1-4-3, 1-3-1) women's soccer team hosted the Lakeland Muskies (3-7, 0-5) Wednesday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match. With early scoring and an energizing start, CUC went on to win 5-0, and picked up their first win of the season.
Â

- CUC's five goals were the most scored in a match since their ten goals on Oct. 9, 2019, against Alverno College.
- The Cougars' three assists is a new season-high, and the most since Sept. 18, 2021.
- The team's 31 shots obliterated their previous season-high of 22. The last time CUC had 30+ shots in a single match was Oct. 13, 2021.
- Allie Brown (St. Louis, Mo.)Â led the team with six shots. She also picked up her first goal and second assist of the season.
- Eddie Garza picked up his first win since being named the head coach in January 2022.
Â
The Cougars wasted no time getting on the board in the first half. Following a corner kick,
Hannah Bowers (Helena, Mont.) fought through a crowd in the 6-yard box for her first goal of the season. Bowers' effort in the 6
th minute set the tone for the rest of the match.
Â
Â
It didn't take long for the Cougars to strike again.
Medelin Loza (Cicero, Ill.)Â snuck past the Muskie defense, and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Allie Brown (St. Louis, Mo.)Â was credited with the assist. Loza's goal in the 18
th minute gave CUC a 2-0 lead.
Â
Â
Just two minutes later, Brown got in on the scoring fun with her first goal of the season. After a tremendous pass from
Jamie Seibert (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Brown floated the ball over the goalkeeper from the top of 18-yard box. The Cougars extended their lead to 3-0, and it remained that way until the end of the half.
Â
CUC came out just as hot in the second half, with some help from their bench. In the 55
th minute,Â
Jordyn Gosell (Antioch, Ill.)Â picked up her first goal as a Cougar off a header from Loza's corner kick. Gosell's goal made it a 4-0 Cougar lead.
Â
Â
CUC continued to press the Muskies on their side of the pitch, and was rewarded with a penalty kick in the 62
nd minute.
Pamela Saldivar (Chicago, Ill.)Â fired the penalty kick past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner of the goal. The freshman's first collegiate goal put the Cougars up 5-0, and it remained that way until the final whistle.
Â
Â
The defense for CUC played a crucial role in the momentum of the game. Lakeland tallied only four shots, which is a new season low for an opponent.
Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.)Â and
Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) each picked up one save.
Â
The Cougars hit the road for their next match on Saturday, October 1, against Milwaukee School of Engineering. The match is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff from MSOE Raider Stadium. Coverage of the match, and everything CUC women's soccer, can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
