Cougars Close Season In NACC Championship Game

MONTGOMERY, Ill. --- Playing for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) tournament championship, the Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team took on the Aurora University Spartans on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars scored the opening goals of the game but were unable to rally late, falling to Aurora 15-7.

CUC found the back of the net early in the contest. CUC got the opening goal of the contest when Elizabeth Cyrwus cut through the defenders before beating the Aurora goalie. Rylee Orenstein then made it 2-0 on the free position attempt with 10:32 to go in the quarter.

Aurora answered by scoring the next five goals of the contest. Concordia pulled back within two on an Emily Cyrwus goal midway through the second quarter. The Spartans extended their lead to 8-3 following the CUC goal, but the Cougars answered just before the half. Nina Naes made it 8-4 with 2:36 to go in the half. Concordia then pulled within 8-5 on a women-up goal by Orenstein.

The Spartans added on two to open the third quarter, but again CUC had an answer to keep within reach. First, El. Cyrwus finished off a free position goal for her 48th goal of the season. Jessica Parker then found the back of the net to pull CUC within 11-7.

El. Cyrwus and Orenstein led the offense with two goals each. Ryan McGee made 13 saves in the game.

The Cougars close out the season with a record of 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the NACC. You can keep up with the team during the offseason on Twitter @CUChicagoWLAX.
