Team Effort Leads CUC Past Beloit for Third Straight Win

 BELOIT, Wis. --- Keeping their unbeaten streak alive in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play, the Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team defeated the Beloit College Buccaneers on Tuesday afternoon. It was the best defensive performance of the season for CUC, where they limited Beloit to just one goal in the 12-1 win.

-         Following up her ten-goal performance on Saturday, Elizabeth Cyrwus netted seven goals, including the first five of the game.
-         Paige Palermo and Grace Miller each netted two goals and an assist.
-         Jessica Parker recorded three assists.
-         Sarah Ludwig forced a season-high four turnovers.
-         Ryan McGee made five saves in net on the day.

The Cougars got the scoring going for the day just 31 seconds into the contest. After Emily Cyrwus won the opening draw, El. Cyrwus beat the Beloit goalie for her first goal of the day. The 1-0 score held until CUC got the offense going again late in the first quarter. After an initial shot was blocked, Em. Cyrwus found a cutting El. Cyrwus for the second goal of the game. El. Cyrwus added three more goals in the quarter to give CUC a 5-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes of play.


Beloit picked up their lone goal of the contest with just over ten minutes to go in the quarter to pull within 5-1. CUC answered a few minutes later when Palermo took a pass from Parker and found the back of the net for her third goal of the season. The 6-1 CUC lead stayed the same for the remainder of the second quarter and the entirety of the third.


The Cougars got the offense going with just over ten minutes to go in the fourth. El. Cyrwus scored the opening two goals of the quarter to extend the CUC lead to 8-1. CUC then netted two goals in just ten seconds, the first coming from Kelli Pietrowski and the second from Miller. Palermo and Miller both added on goals late in the quarter leading to the 12-1 CUC win.
