Men's Lacrosse Falls to Beloit

River Forest, Ill. — The Concordia University Chicago men's lacrosse team was back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they welcomed the Buccaneers of Beloit College to Concordia Stadium for a conference battle. It was a tightly contested game for 60 minutes, with the Cougars ultimately falling 7-5.

The Cougars got on the board first courtesy of sophomore Zachary Lewandowski (West Dundee, Ill.), who scored his first-career goal at the 8:17 mark in the first quarter.

Beloit answered just over four minutes later, but sophomore Justin Headley (Baltimore, Md.) put the Cougars back in front with his third goal of the season. As the first quarter entered the final minute, the Buccaneers once again found the back of the net for an equalizer, and it was 2-2 after 15 minutes.

The Buccaneers took their first lead of the game just under five minutes into the second quarter following a CUC turnover. It was a defensive battle for the remainder of the quarter, and Beloit took that 3-2 lead into the halftime locker room.

Junior Jarred Tabor (Crystal Lake, Ill.) evened things up for CUC at the 10 minute mark of the third quarter with his team-leading sixth goal of the season. It took just 14 seconds for the visitors to answer, however, and the Cougars once again trailed 4-3.

An offensive ambush by the Buccaneers led to another goal with 4:44 remaining in the third, creating the first two-goal lead for either team on the afternoon.

Trailing by three goals with under seven minutes to play, Tabor once again came through with his second goal of the game. This sparked a lot of energy for the Cougars, but Beloit was once again able to answer just over a minute later.

The final goal of the day for the Cougars came from senior Zach Cicero (Chicago, Ill.), who became the second CUC player to score his first-career goal in the game. This goal made it 7-5, where it would stay for the final two minutes.

Inside the Box Score

  • It's the second time in three games that Tabor has scored multiple goals.
