River Forest, Ill. -- Following a tough two game loss in senior day, the Concordia University Chicago softball team fell on two games to Aurora University.
Â
GAME ONE
After struggling to get the bats going in the first inning, the Cougars were forced to take to defense early in the game. Holly Bathje (Davis Junction, Ill.) stepped into the circle and fought through the intense Spartan offense to hold the Spartans to one within the first inning.Â
Â
As the game progressed the Spartans held onto their one run lead while the Cougars fought through their drought at the plate. Only grabbing three hits on the game, the Cougars were unable to convert into runs. They dropped game one 8-0 within five innings.
Â
GAME TWO
After dropping game one on the day, the Cougars looked to battle back against the Spartans. As Aurora continued to keep their bats hot, they put Ashley Shroll (Tampa, Fla.) to work in the first inning, with the Spartans going up 2-0. With CUC struggling to get the bats going, they quickly fell behind 5-0 as Shroll continued to battle inside the circle.
Â
Keeping the battle going as they headed into the seventh inning, a single from Kallie Tierney (Corona, Calif.) gave the Cougars the momentum they needed. A stolen base from Tierney followed by a base hit from Shroll put the Cougars on the board for their only run of the game.Â
Â
Unable to continue their at bats, the Cougar closed out the seventh inning and fell once again to the Spartans.
Â
This team will be back in action on Thursday as they head to Lakeland to take on the Muskies at 3 and 5 pm. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
