Falling behind early on, the Cougars offense struggled to get going. Unable to combat the Scarlet Hawk defense, the Cougars were held to one shot in the first quarter while they waited for their opportunity to strike. Fighting through defenders, Tabor cut to his left and sailed a shot low to slip past the goalie giving the Cougars their first goal of the game.
Late in the third quarter, a high intensity Cougar offense got the ball moving up the sidelines as a rocketshot from Dougherty found its way into the net for the senior's first career goal.
Not long after, in the fourth quarter, Tabor cut across the top and found enough space to get the ball out of his stick for his second goal of the night. With the Cougars riding this momentum, Zach Cicero found his way to the net after battling four Scarlet Hawk defenders and was able to send one in to bring the Cougars at four goals on the night. Cicero's goal put the Cougars on a 3-2 scoring run over the Scarlet Hawks to close the game.
Despite falling behind early, the Cougars continued their fight and held the Scarlet Hawks to four goals in the second half, their second strongest defensive half of the season. After this game, the Cougars sit at 0-7 in conference play as they head into the final stretch of the season with two upcoming home games. Coverage can be found at cucougars.com/coverage.
