CUC Tennis Shows Fight Over The Weekend

RIVER FOREST, Ill. --- Continuing NACC play this weekend, the Concordia University Chicago men's tennis team hit the road on Saturday afternoon to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders. CUC fought hard but fell 9-0. CUC then closed the weekend with a highly contested match against the Marian Sabres. CUC and Marian split singles with three points each, but Marian was able to take two out of three doubles matches to take the day 5-4.

Saturday was a tough matchup for CUC against one of the NACC pre-season favorites. The Cougars battled tough all day but ultimately were unable to take any points.

Sunday's match against Marian was as close as they come. Caleb Gustafson and Joshua Wright picked up a huge point for CUC at number two doubles, defeating Marian 8-7.
Scott Engler had a close battle at number two singles. He took the opening set of the match 6-4, but was unable to take either of the next two sets, falling 7-5 and 6-1.

Gustafson had his own three-set match at number three singles. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Gustafson rallied to take set two 7-5 and set three 6-4. Wright added to his winning ways at number four singles. He defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-1 to pick up a critical point for CUC.

Alan Martinez picked up the final point of the day for CUC at number six singles. He was able to defeat his opponent 6-4, 6-2.

The Cougars will return to action on Thursday night when they take on Illinois Tech at the XS Tennis Center. Opening serve is set for 8:00pm.
