Seven Cougars Score in Loss to Lake Forest

Lake Forest, Ill. – In a hard fought battle against the weather and the Lake Forest Foresters, the Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team fell 11-8.

Inside the Box
  • Seven Cougars netted goals on the day with Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) securing two.
  • Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) grabbed eight saves while also picking up three ground balls.
  • Sarah Ludwig (Roselle, Ill.) led the defensive end with three caused turnovers while picking up two ground balls.

After Lake Forest jumped ahead 3-0 in the first quarter, a last second goal from graduate student Kelli Pietrowski (Wheeling, Ill.) put the Cougars on the board heading into the second quarter. Riding that momentum, they scored the next four goals of the game. A game tying goal from Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) came off a free position attempt in the eight minute of play of the second quarter. Shortly after, the go ahead goal from Orenstein was exactly what the Cougars needed to keep the momentum on their side. A final insurance goal from Grace Miller (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) late in the quarter would rest the Cougars ahead at 5-4 heading into halftime.

After the half it became a back and forth battle between the Cougars and the Foresters as they both continued the physical matchup. As the Foresters tied the score at five apiece, Orenstein and Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) took matters into their own hands each adding a goal to put them back ahead by two.

An unassisted Foresters goal to open the fourth quarter rattled the Cougars before Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) retaliated with a goal of her own to keep the two point advantage. With the Foresters making a late rally in the fourth, the Cougars were forced to take multiple timeouts in an attempt to recompose themselves and attempt to reestablish their lead. After allowing five unanswered goals to close the game, the Cougars fell 11-8.

Following this game, the Cougars will be back in action on March 30th where they head to Mequon, Wisconsin to take on Concordia University Wisconsin for their first conference game of the season.
